Getting to Japan, Arrival and Accommodation

Where should I fly to in Japan to join this retreat?

Please make arrangements to fly to either Narita or Haneda airport in Tokyo. Narita airport is located approximately 50 minutes by train from central Tokyo. Haneda is closer, but it will depend of which airline you use as to which airport you arrive at.

We will start the retreat in Tokyo for those coming from overseas. If you are located in Japan already, please feel free to join us in Yumoto, Iwaki or at 1pm for the train from Ueno to Yumoto.

Where should I stay in Tokyo before the retreat starts?

The retreat meeting point will be the JR (Japan Rail) Ueno station. Any station on the "Yamanote Line" is easy to access Ueno.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring the absolute minimum with you! Travelling in Japan means train travel and large suitcases can be a real burden. Travel light and you will be very pleased you did.

November is cool and pleasant in Yumoto and Tokyo so bring some layers for those cooler evenings and mornings. Temperatures tend to be around 15-20 degrees Celsius in the day time. (60-70 degrees Fahrenheit)

Bring comfortable clothes for sitting on the floor! Casual dress is fine for the entire retreat, you may want a slightly dressier outfit for our "Welcome Dinner" but you could also wear the "Yukata" or "light kimono/dressing gown" provided by the ryokan (traditional inn).

I don't speak Japanese at all! Will I be ok?

Yes! Japan is very traveler friendly and people will help you if you are lost or confused. If you are worried about getting from the airport to your hotel, please ask Jayne for advice.

I want to travel around Japan after the retreat, isn't it super expensive?

No! Japan is now a very affordable destination! You can stay in a capsule hotel for 3,000 yen (US$45) a night, and eat great meals for 600 yen (US$9). Additional travel can be very affordable with a JR Pass too (not necessary during the retreat), avoiding major tourist destinations will mean you can enjoy Real Japan without the crowds - Japan is a HOT destination right now, so ask Jayne where you should visit to get the most out of your trip, depending on your personal interests.

The JR pass must be purchased in your home country before departure.

During the Retreat

What kind of place will we be staying?

Ryokan Koito is a small family run Japanese style inn with a modern twist. This ryokan was specifically chosen for the wonderful hospitality of its owners, great food and it's hot spring water which flows direct from underground to the baths to maintain it's natural healing properties.

Will I have my own room and bath room?

Yes! Each participant will have their own room, each room has its own toilet and small bath tub and shower. We hope you will enjoy using the large indoor and outdoor public baths which are very relaxing. (Baths are segregated for women and men) Please note that the rooms are Japanese style and we will be sleeping on a futon.

I've never used a Japanese hot spring before! How do I do it?

Here is a great video on how to use an hot spring bath. We thoroughly encourage you to give it a try! After 1 or 2 times you will be hooked! The water in the hot spring has healing qualities and Ryokan Koito makes a point of piping the water straight to the baths so none of the benefits are lost.

What about my dietary requirements?

In Japan, gluten free" and vegan diets are not at all usual as they are in other countries. Japanese cooking uses a lot of soy sauce that contains gluten and vegetarian or vegan dishes are hard to find, especially out of the main cities. Many restaurants do not even have a vegetarian option. Please consult Jayne before reserving if you have any concerns regarding the food. We will do our best to provide vegetarian options, but please be aware that the variety of food may be limited for those who require vegetarian, vegan or gluten free.

What happens during the "Private 30-min. session"?

Prior to the Reiki training, each participant will receive a 30-minute private session with Silke which includes a Soul Path Numerology reading of your birth date and how it relates to your life. This will allow Silke to tap into your potential and optimize your healing as well as the downloads you receive during the Reiki training.

What happens during the "Energy Healing Evening"?

Experience profound healing during our Group Energy Healing Evening facilitated by Silke. As she initiates the flow of Reiki and induces a state of high vibration in the space, a re-patterning of your energy field naturally takes place, where profound shifts will take place.

By introducing your energetic system to a new impulse for healing, old patterns and blocks are released and a sense of well being naturally begins to establish itself.

And in the Reiki 1 training that follows over the next 2 days, you will learn how to facilitate this yourself!
